Evenings += 1

“Blues is joining Evenings.” A simple statement, as if one was reading the news, or an e-mail, but one that was surprisingly lackluster for a teammate like mine. I could not help myself, I looked from the notepad I was writing down the schedule into to look at the messenger of this update.

“You told Metal right?” In my own head at this point, I began to detail out the changes that Blues would bring to Evenings, what his specialty was, his work-style, the dozens of seemingly small details that plagued my mind at all hours.

“Metal told me. He’s excited, ever since Spiritual left, we’ve needed someone who could even out our team, and Blues made waves on the Day Shift with his willingness to work and his empathy,” my teammate, Country, began to explain, as she was playing with her wireless earbuds. Her phone would probably ring any minute now, needing her attention from her family. I chose to let that be the end of the conversation as I returned to my own thoughts, preparing for the shift at hand.

Working at an Inpatient treatment center which also doubled as a Detox center was an easy enough job if you could plan and account for factors. That was how I was able to survive, this shift actually allowed me to breathe and think as much as I had to. Of course, I trust my team, which also helped.

Blues primarily did his groups with Inpatient with the focus being Aftercare and Continuing Care if I remember correctly, which was something we lacked currently in the team. Perhaps it would be best to await his appearance later, and take it piece by piece there.

“When does he start?” I was already detailing out my plans for a rudimentary schedule for our shifts, as I awaited the answer, only to notice that in my thoughts Country had stepped out for her bi-hourly smoke break and phone call to check on her family. Family first, that was her motto.

“I’ll let him surprise me when he shows up,” I said to myself as I stood up, closing my notebook, making sure everything was affixed properly, and stepping out of our office space to talk with the clients.
